Library Card
Your Library Card
Who can get a library card, how to apply, and how to use your library card.
Persons who would like to borrow materials from the Ashton Library, should request a library card.
You will be asked to fill out a form including name, address, phone number, etc. You may also be asked for a reference from someone locally who knows you. You will then be assigned a patron number and all materials you or family members check out are checked out using that number.
Your responsibility is to return borrowed materials on time; print and audio books are loaned for a two-week period while magazines and video materials are checked out for one week. Items may usually be renewed if there is no one waiting for the item. Items may be returned to the drop box is the library is not open.
The staff may limit checkouts on your first visit and also later depending on your past history with the library.
Books and magazines have a one WEEK grace period before accruing a fine of ten cents a day or 60 cents a week. Both VHS videos and DVDs have a one DAY grace period or until the next open library date. Video fines are $1.00 initially and then $1.00 per week. Persons with accrued fines of $5.00 may not check out materials until the fine is paid.
Items owned by the library but already checked out may be reserved and you will be notified when it is available. If some material is not available locally, it probably can be borrowed through interlibrary loan.
